Professional Certificate

Professional Certificate in K-Taping & Rigid Sports Taping
(Prime International Academy & Sence Rehabilitation and Sports Hospital)

Practical skills for clinical care, sports support and rehabilitation. Build the confidence to select, apply and evaluate both kinesiology tape and rigid sports tape. Combine live online learning with supervised hospital-based practice in a focused three-month programme.

Duration 3 Months
Structure 6 Modules
Practical Venue Sence Hospital, Kandana
Assessment Practical-Only (Day 3)

Programme Overview

Effective taping starts with understanding the person, the movement and the purpose of the application. This programme connects practical technique with the reasoning behind tape selection, so participants learn when to use kinesiology tape, when rigid support is more appropriate and how to evaluate the response.

Training progresses from safety and foundational skills to upper- and lower-limb applications, followed by integrated sports and rehabilitation cases. Elastic adhesive support and introductory dynamic taping broaden the learning experience while K-Taping and rigid sports taping remain the core focus.

Programme Aim

To develop participants’ ability to select, apply and evaluate safe, purposeful K-Taping and rigid sports taping techniques using relevant anatomical knowledge, movement assessment and evidence-informed reasoning within their professional roles.

Why Choose This Programme

Learn both K-Taping and rigid sports taping, with clear guidance on selecting the appropriate material for the intended goal.
Develop hands-on skills through supervised demonstrations, repeated applications and tutor feedback in a hospital training environment.
Use an assess–tape–reassess approach to check comfort, movement and the immediate response to an application.
Explore practical scenarios relevant to cricket, rugby, athletics and court sports.
Fit professional development around work through Sunday evening online learning and monthly practical days.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion, participants will be able to:

Explain the properties, purposes and limitations of kinesiology tape and rigid sports tape, and compare them with the additional materials introduced.
Identify relevant anatomical landmarks and perform basic movement checks within their professional scope.
Recognise precautions, contraindications and signs requiring further assessment before taping.
Select a suitable tape and technique for a clearly defined functional or support goal.
Demonstrate safe skin preparation, positioning, anchoring, tension control and removal.
Apply selected K-Taping and rigid sports taping techniques to upper- and lower-limb regions.
Demonstrate introductory elastic adhesive and dynamic taping techniques covered during supervised practice.
Reassess comfort and function and decide whether to retain, modify or remove an application.
Integrate taping appropriately with exercise, education and load management.
Explain aftercare and document the purpose, application and observed response.

Programme Structure

Six practical and career-relevant modules delivered across 8 theory sessions (16 hours live on Zoom) and 3 practical days at Sence Rehabilitation and Sports Hospital.

Modules

Connect relevant anatomy with movement, symptoms and functional goals. Learn to recognise when taping may be suitable, when further assessment is needed and when an application should be avoided.

Key topics: anatomical landmarks, basic movement screening, consent, skin checks, precautions, contraindications, referral indicators and baseline functional measures.

Develop the essential skills of kinesiology taping, from cutting and preparation to anchoring, positioning and tension control. Explore selected applications for movement cues and symptom-related goals while understanding the limitations of the evidence.

Key topics: tape properties, strip configurations, safe handling, selected limb and trunk applications, comfort checks, aftercare and removal.

Build a dedicated foundation in rigid sports taping for selected joint-support needs. Practise choosing and adapting techniques according to the intended restriction or support, the movement task and individual comfort.

Key topics: rigid zinc-oxide tape, protective underwrap where appropriate, anchors, ankle stirrups, figure-6 techniques, heel locks, foot and arch support, and selected wrist, thumb and finger applications.

Apply kinesiology and rigid taping skills to foot, ankle, knee and lower-limb scenarios. Compare materials, refine technique and reassess the application during relevant functional tasks.

Key topics: ankle and foot support, tailored patellar taping, calf and thigh applications, elastic adhesive support, movement checks and technique modification.

Explore kinesiology and rigid applications for the shoulder region, elbow, wrist and hand. Introduce dynamic tape as an additional material with distinct handling and recoil characteristics.

Key topics: shoulder and scapular movement cues, selected elbow applications, wrist and hand support, introductory load-assistance concepts, safe pressure and freedom of movement.

Bring the full process together through realistic cases: assess, select, apply, reassess and communicate. Learn to recognise an unhelpful response and integrate taping with exercise, education and appropriate load management.

Key topics: cricket, rugby, athletics and court-sport scenarios; material selection; application modification; aftercare; documentation; and practical assessment preparation.

Three Months of Progressive Practical Learning

Month 1 – Establish the foundations: Practise screening, skin preparation, tape handling and foundational K-Taping and rigid taping skills. Establish the habit of checking movement and comfort before and after application.
Month 2 – Develop regional techniques: Consolidate lower- and upper-limb applications through guided cases. Compare tape choices, repeat key techniques and refine handling through tutor feedback.
Month 3 – Integrate and demonstrate: Explore introductory dynamic support, complete integrated sports scenarios and consolidate the full assess–tape–reassess process. Complete the final practical assessment during the third practical day.

One Final Practical Assessment

Assessment is practical only, with no separate written examination. Participants complete an observed case-based demonstration that includes a kinesiology application and a rigid sports taping application selected from techniques taught:

Preparation and screening: establish the goal, obtain consent and identify relevant safety considerations.
Tape selection: choose an appropriate material and briefly explain the choice.
Application: demonstrate safe positioning, skin preparation, anchoring, tension and handling.
Reassessment: check comfort and repeat a relevant movement or functional task.
Aftercare: explain monitoring, removal and when to seek further advice.

Brief questions during the demonstration assess the reasoning behind each decision. Successful completion requires practical competence, essential safety checks and fulfilment of the published attendance requirements.

Learning Support

Practical workbooks, application checklists, revision videos and case-based learning activities support preparation and practice. These activities build towards the practical assessment; there is no separate written examination.
